LOEX of the West 2006. Proposals for the 2006 version of LOEX-of-the-West will be accepted until November 15th, 2005. The conference is going to be held on Kohala (Kona) Coast of Hawaii's Big Island from June 8-10, 2006.
I really enjoyed the LOEX-of-the-West conference I attended in Montana several years back. And I would really like to visit Hawaii and give a presentation. However, this looks expensive. Travel expenses to Hawaii are not too bad but I think any itinerary to the Big Island requires an inter-island flight from Honolulu which I have read is pricey. I know I will not be able to get my library to pay for most of this and I doubt my wife would let me drop a lot of money for a library instruction conference.
The local and travel information page will not be available until January 2006. This is too late for me as I am only going to attend if I present and the due date for proposals is November. I'll bookmark it and keep it in mind. If I do attend, I'll brush up on the History of Hawaii, Hawaiian Culture, and Hawaii Libraries.
From the site:
Aloha! Loex of the West is going to Hawaii. Black sand beaches, volcanoes, waterfalls, and the crystal-blue waters of the Pacific Ocean will provide the backdrop for the 2006 Loex of the West conference.
This conference will interest librarians and other educators who wish to examine the extent to which information literacy forms the basis of and contributes to the goal of lifelong learning.
The conference location, the Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii, is nestled on 32 acres on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii, the home of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Join Loex of the West for an unforgettable conference experience. This meeting combines the beauty of Hawaii, an award winning luxury resort, and over 40 programs.
