Position Announcement - Director of Off-Campus Library Services, Central Michigan University

Director of Off-Campus Library Services. (OCLS) – PA-5

Central Michigan University Libraries seeks an innovative, enthusiastic librarian to lead distance learning and off-campus initiatives and programs. Located at the Central campus in Mt. Pleasant, MI and reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the Director of Off-Campus Library Services (OCLS) leads a team of twelve librarians and staff who support all off-campus academic programs

OCLS is nationally recognized as a preeminent provider of off-campus library services for extended learning programs, serving CMU’s adult undergraduate and graduate students in over 50 locations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The 2006 and 2007 recipients of the ACRL DLS Haworth Press Distance Learning Librarian Conference Sponsorship Award have been OCLS librarians at CMU.

Directs reference assistance, library user instruction, copyright, and document delivery services for students and faculty in the off-campus academic programming of the university. Manages and evaluates a staff of 12, including five professional librarians, employed at both the main campus and remote locations. Provides departmental and library-wide leadership in the development of user services. Responsible for budget development and oversight and effective presentation of OCLS programs. Serves as a member of senior management groups.

Minimum Qualifications:
ALA-accredited MLS degree. Evidence of managerial success and a commitment to service excellence. At least five years of professional library experience in public services. Demonstrated successful supervisory experience. Experience with current and emerging library information technology applications. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and willingness to travel.

Preferred Qualifications:
Academic library experience in an adult learner setting strongly preferred. Additional advanced degree.
