The former ERIC Clearinghouse system produced a small number of ERIC Digests that were directly related to information literacy. The ERIC Clearinghouses were closed by the Department of Education of the US Federal government in 2003. These public domain documents are still available.
ERIC Digests were short reports (1,000 - 1,500 words) on topics of prime current interest in education. They were targeted specifically for teachers, administrators, policymakers, and other practitioners, but generally useful to the broad educational community. And, they were designed to provide an overview of information on a given topic, plus references to items providing more detailed information.

This ERIC Digest examines characteristics of successful programs, presents approaches currently being taken by academic libraries to support ILI, and addresses common challenges in developing and maintaining ILI programs.
Information Literacy and Teacher Education, (1998). (PDF). This Digest discusses the concept of information literacy (the ability to access, evaluate, and use information from a variety of sources) and its relevance for teachers.
Information Literacy, (1999). (PDF). ERIC Digest which attempts to define this concept.
Information Literacy: Search Strategies, Tools & Resources, (1999). This Digest briefly describes challenges facing information literacy development as well as ST&R and its usefulness to community college faculty and students.
Health Literacy beyond Basic Skills, (2003). (PDF). This Digest looks beyond adult basic education to address issues of health and literacy for all adults and educational responses to them.
